Failure and Fire

Failure and Fire

Diana became like Hephaestus
thrown down from Olympus into an undersea grotto
populated by sea nymphs.
That god had lost his will,
the fall extinguished
all creative fire.

Submerged within the myth,
I realized how our small family
must start a new fire,
mysterious and seemingly impossible.

Maybe ignition could occur under the surface,
an energy source from primal parental instinct,
a form of heart or soul knowing
how my flesh and blood flowed together with Diana,
small, enormous steps might be necessary
so education and learning and hope and love
all mixed up together,
a potent stew with multiple ingredients,
an alchemy from a youthful flame of longing and desire and love.
